An unofficial recording of a Byrds performance at the Winterland, San Francisco, on December 9, 1967 has surfaced yesterday.The lineup is the trio of Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman and Michael Clarke.
A true find, and adding to the surprise is a 5:25 long version of "Milestones", an instrumental which has long been the Holy Grail for Byrds completists. It is sandwiched between "My Back Pages" and "Eight Miles High", a place that would soon be filled by "B.J. Blues" in later concerts.
